In Search of The Purple Orchid, Senaka Senanayake

Grosvenor Gallery and Patrimonio Gallery at Snowball Studios, Mumbai 11 - 16 November 2024

Senaka Senanayake has been the subject of many exhibitions at Grosvenor Gallery over the last ten years, both in London and overseas. As recently as June 2025 we exhibited 3 new canvases in our exhibition 'Crossing Borders: Modern Art from South Asia', held at Phillips in London, and prior to that, our November 2024 his exhibition 'In Search of the Purple Orchid' in Mumbai was a sell-out.

As is well documented, Senaka took to painting early in life, and has exhibited extensively around the world since the early 1960s. Women with White Bulls was bought by a private British collector in July 2004 from the Artonia Galleries - previously Sharika Galleries - at the Oberoi hotel in Colombo, and has remained safely tucked away since then in a private collection in the midlands.

It is in fabulous condition and as tends to be the case, looks much better in the flesh than in the photos.  Pleasingly, we have a copy of the original purchase receipt - rarer than you might think.
