Self-taught painters like Ara and Hussain were alongside the rebel and enfant terrible, Francis Newton, S.H. Raza, H.A. Gade and S.K. Bakre. Art-institutions-trained artists and Nowshir Chaptgar, an advertising executive-cum-painter, shared the ideals of the Group and were close friends of the members.”
