Produced by Edward Challinor of Pinnocks Works and Unicorn Pottery, Tunstall, Staffordshire, (1842 – 1867)
This series of designs is copied directly from Spode’s earlier “Indian Sporting” series, itself extremely popular and commercially successful, and may thus be regarded as a blatant example of “piggy-backing” upon the larger company’s success, a practice common at this time. The reverse with underglaze blue printed mark with the series title ORIENTAL SPORT within a ribbon cartouche surmounted by a crown above the initials GR within laurel fronds.
