2012: A Further Global Encounter: Grosvenor Vadehra

25 July - 17 August 2012
2012: a further global encounter

Grosvenor Vadehra is proud to present 2012: A Further Global Encounter, an exhibition showcasing the best of Contemporary Art from India. The exhibition will coincide with the Olympic Games which are being hosted in London this year. The games will be the centre of attention and will showcase the best athletes the world has to offer in one of the world's most high spirited cities.

During this exciting time, Grosvenor Vadehra has selected thirteen leading Indian artists to represent India in London.  The exhibition aims to explore contemporary issues and ideas that are not only local and specific to India, but which deal with aspects of the global panorama as well.  We are expecting a large Indian audience who will be coming to London to see the Games to come and see the best of Indian Art at the same time.

The selection process has not been anywhere near as rigorous or competitive as for the Games.  However each artist exhibiting has been chosen for their personal contribution not only to the local Art scene but also to defining the perception of Indian Art overseas. Most have been exhibiting internationally and in the UK for that matter at the various Indian shows at the Serpentine, Hayward and Initial Access.

The London 2012 Olympics is opening up the city to a vast resource for creative potential by artists in all disciplines. By using this moment as a blank canvas, we aim to thread together experiments and knowledge; transcending the environments and realms of daily urban life. Changed boundaries and fresh perceptions of how contemporary people live around the world are the foundations of global encounters, the pinnacle of which are the Olympics this year.

This international sporting event is more about the spirit of brotherhood and mutual understanding and less about competitiveness. Engaging with these notions, the artists will exhibit works in which they will endeavour to address the specific moment in which these nations come together to endorse ideals of sportsmanship and team work.

Grosvenor Vadehra invites you to experience innovative ways of looking at the present and explore the idea of recognizing the other by fabricating unseen spaces that may change our own personal perceptions and instigate new ones.

The artist's participating in the exhibition include Aditya Pande, Anju Dodiya,  Atul Dodiya, Gigi Scaria, Hema Upadhyay, Jagannath Panda, Prajakta Palav, Pranati Panda, Shibu Natesan, Shilpa Gupta, Sunoj D , TV Santosh, and Zakir Husain. The Preview will be on 24 July 2012 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM and the exhibition will be open to the public from 25 July 2012.
