1918-2010.
One of the first Sikh pilots to volunteer with the RAF during WW2.
At 19 he was already a pilot and was employed by Shell to supervise refuelling of flying boats. 24 pilots were selected from India to join the RAF of whom 7 were Sikhs. Only 2 of the 24 survived the War. He flew in different theatres of war including over Europe and the Middle East and against the Japanese in Burma. In Burma he was instrumental in saving 300 US troops for which he was awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). His citation read “Flight Lieutenant Pujji has shown himself to be a determined and skilled pilot, who has always displayed outstanding leadership and courage”
