Inherited by the vendor from a relative who was bequeathed it by Norman Cliff, former Foreign Editor of The News Chronicle who later served as the papers New Delhi correspondent between 1946-1957. Cliff was a close friend with Gandhi and was gifted this painting by Jamini Roy in the late 1940s.
